The Global Energy Association at the World Energy Congress-2019: Day 2
The key events of the Global Energy Association in the framework of the second day of the 24th World Energy Congress were its own session, “Mission possible: the Global Energy Prize as a driver for sustainable energy for all” and presentation of the report “Energy Transition. Energy in a new technological cycle.” In addition, the leadership of the association met with the leadership of the World Energy Council, and association`s experts gave a number of interviews.
During session, experts from the UK, Hungary, Russia, Korea, and the UAE discussed ways of achieving of sustainable energy and came to the conclusion that is it possible to provide current and future generations with clean energy resources without harming the environment. But to accomplish this crucial task, a deep transformation of the global energy system will be required. It, in turn, implies the development of a technological base, the unified political will of states and effective international cooperation.
Also on the second day, the Global Energy Association held a series of key presentations of its report on “Energy Transition. Energy in a new technological cycle.” It should be noted that it was prepared for the congress following the results of the VIII Global Energy Prize Summit held earlier. The key topics of the report were the search for solutions for the transition to a new cycle and ways to achieve safe, reliable, affordable (financially and physically) energy, as well as the requirements for sustainable development of the energy sector and the impact of the 4th industrial revolution on the industry.
Besides that, the leadership of the Global Energy Association held talks with a delegation of the World Energy Council led by its Chairman Yongun David Kim. The parties recognized the importance of joining initiatives and the need for cooperation. The head of the Global Energy Association, Alexander Ignatov, gave a presentation on main activities of the company, told about the achievements of the Global Energy Prize laureates, showcased the goals of the international youth program, as well as plans for further development of the «Global Energy» international discussion platform. Mr. Kim gave a high evaluation to the transparent nomination process of the Global Energy Prize, which is also confirmed by international rating organizations, and shared that he considers the mission of Global Energy Prize to be very important, while main areas of the Global Energy Association`s activity - balanced and comprehensive. Especially strategically vital direction is the work with younger generations, as he noted.
A little later during the day, another meeting the leadership of WEC was held. In particular, with the executive director of the Russian National Committee of the World Energy Council, Andrei Logatkin.
