RECOGNISING OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS IN ENERGY

The Global Energy Prize annually honors outstanding achievements in energy research and technology from around the world that are helping address the world’s various and pressing energy challenges.

The Global Energy Association at the World Energy Congress – 2019.Day 3.

The presentation of the Global Energy Association’s stand to the Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Aleksandr Novak was the main event of the third day of the Association’s work within the 24th World Energy Congress. During the business program Association’s experts presented at a number of key forum’s discussions. In addition, the Global Energy Association held a number of presentation meetings, negotiations, interviews and signed a cooperation agreement with the University of Khalifa.

During the visit of the Global Energy Association’s stand, Aleksandr Novak noted the quality of representation of the association at such large international forum as the World Energy Congress. The head of the Global Energy Association, Aleksandr Ignatov, discussed with the Minister the official agenda of the Association at the Congress and invited him to the Global Energy Prize Award Ceremony on October 3 during the Russian Energy Week, as well as to a reception in honor of the new laureates. Oleg Budargin, Chairman of the Global Energy Association’s Board of Trustees; Vice-Chairman of the World Energy Council, thanked the Minister for the full support of the project. Aleksandr Novak also welcomed Rodney John Allam, the 2012 Global Energy Prize laureate, Rae Kwon Chung, the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee Chairman, Marta Bonifert, the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee member.

The discussion part of the day was opened by Rae Kwon Chung, Chairman of the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee, IPCC member, awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007, with his participation in the session “Energy, Water, Food: The Ecosystem on the Edge”. The expert discussed the need for urgent measures to maintain energy, food and water security.

At the parallel session, Xiansheng Sun, a member of the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee member; Secretary General of the International Energy Forum (IEF) presented his vision on how to maintain and strengthen energy security.

The program of the association’s stand was very intense. The second day in a row the report “Energy Transition. Energy in a new technological cycle” was being presented. The report was prepared for the congress following the results of the previous VIII Global Energy Prize Summit. The key topics of the report were the search for solutions for the transition to a new energy cycle and ways to achieve safe, reliable, affordable (financially and physically) energy, as well as the requirements for sustainable development of the energy sector and the impact of the 4th industrial revolution on the industry. Marta Bonifert, the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee member; Hungarian Business Leaders Forum (HBLF), Board Member, Sustainability Work Stream Leader presented her vision of the sustainable energy agenda.

A bit later, the Global Energy Association’s delegates held negotiations on cooperation with representatives of the University of Khalifa, a leading educational institution in the UAE, one of the top five universities in the national ranking. The parties agreed on the implementation of joint initiatives in the field of youth policy, the implementation of student exchange programs, the expansion of expert bases, the organization of a single youth platform for the consolidation of opinions and scientific projects. Right after the meeting, an agreement on cooperation between the parties was signed. The signing ceremony was attended by the Head of the Global Energy Association, Aleksandr Ignatov and Executive Vice President of the University of Khalifa, Dr. Arif Sultan Al Hammadi.

During the day, the Head of the Global Energy Association Alexander Ignatov also met with the newly elected Chair of the World Energy Council Jean-Marie Dauger and the Secretary General of the World Energy Council Christoph Frei. The parties discussed the interim results of 24th World Energy Congress and the agenda of the future congress, which will be held in St. Petersburg in 2022. In addition, another meeting was held wiht Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of FGC UES, PJSCPavel Korsunov.
