Future Electricity Systems: Experience from the Middle East countries

On October 1st, at the National Research University – Higher School of Economics, Steven Griffiths, the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee member; Senior Vice President for Research and Development, Khalifa University of Science and Technology (KUST) will give an open lecture. The expert will talk about design of electricity systems in the Middle East countries and will evaluate possibilities for the replication of this experience. The event starts at 18.00 (Myasnitskaya St., 11, room 429).

In the nearest future, the global energy system will differ greatly from the current one, which is existing through the widespread introduction of renewable energy sources, electrification and use of digital technologies, considers Steven Griffiths.In the upcoming speech, the expert will explain how these trends are already being realized in the countries of the Middle East, what energy sectors provide the greatest opportunities and limitations for the introduction of clean technologies, and will present systemic problems that stand in the way of widespread global changes

Steven Griffiths has overall responsibility for research institutes and centers, research partnerships, research grants and contracts, technology management and transfer, research laboratories and research computing at the Khalifa University of Science and Technology.He is advisor to the UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science, Governing Board member of the Graphene Engineering Innovation Center at the University of Manchester, member of the Zayed Future Energy Prize Selection Committee. Steven Griffiths is an  Associate Editor and Editorial Board member of Elsevier’s international journal Energy Strategy Reviews and Associate Editor and Editorial Board member of Springer’s international journal Energy Transitions. He further serves as advisor to journals and magazines focused on energy systems and technology innovation while regularly providing insights on innovation, energy policy and energy strategy for international peer-reviewed journals and think tank publications.
