The Global Energy Association at the World Energy Congress - 2019: Day 1
Today, on the first day of the 24th World Energy Congress, the Global Energy Association held a number of presentations, negotiations and interviews, as well as organized a series of life-shows designed to demonstrate the main achievements of the Global Energy Prize. Association`s experts took part in the business program of the congress.
Moreover, especially for the participants of the largest event of the World Energy Council, the association organized at its booth a special Global Energy Quiz. By passing it, delegates of the congress got an opportunity to not only learn interesting facts about energy technologies, but also a chance to win a memorable prize.
The first presentation in the official program of the congress was the keynote speech of the 2012 Global Energy Prize laureate, member of the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee Rodney John Allam. He took part in one of the key sessions of the first day devoted to the pressing issue of deep decarbonization of the global energy system. While presenting, he shared his vision on implementation of new strategies for zero carbon dioxide emissions.
Chairman of the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee, Advisor to the Chair of HELP Group under the UN Secretary General, Rae Kwon Chung, spoke on the prospects for achieving a sustainable future, citing the Global Energy Prize and the Zayed Prize as accelerators of this process. “There are long-term and short-term goals of sustainable reality. The award programs help highlight the short-term achievements of scientists, which subsequently indirectly and directly affect the goals of sustainable development in the long term”, -he said
A series of official meetings on September 9 was opened by negotiations between the Head of the Global Energy Association Alexander Ignatov and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Global Energy Association, vice chairman of the World Energy Council Oleg Budargin with the president of the Russian Association on Small Energy Maxim Zagornov. The parties discussed the prospects for possible cooperation and the implementation of common initiatives in order to maintain the best international practices that contribute to the development of the energy industry.
Also on the first day of the congress, the Global Energy Association and the Russian Association on Small Energy signed a cooperation agreement that will expand the current format of interaction and determine a number of joint activities for the coming period (2019-2020).
Recall that in 2018, the Global Energy Association became an official partner of the International “Small Energy - Great Achievement” Award (organized by the Association on Small Energy). The Global Energy Association held awarding ceremony for its winners of the All-Russian contest of youth research projects in the field of energy, The Energy of Youth, as part of the award ceremony for the best projects in the field of distributed energy research projects.
Further, the leadership of the Global Energy Association met with representatives of the Zayed Sustainability Prize. This award is given for innovation and development of solutions in the field of renewable and sustainable energy sources. Stressing the common goals of supporting the world's leading experts creating innovations and discoveries in the energy sector, the parties discussed possible ways of cooperation.
In particular, they touched upon the issue of holding a joint session of the laureates of two prizes in the framework of the “Sustainable Development Week in Abu Dhabi” forum. The Global Energy delegation, for its part, proposed to consider the possibility of exchanging expert data on energy development issues, presented the agenda of the Global Energy Prize Summit -2020, and invited representatives of the Zayed Prize to the upcoming Global Energy Prize Award Ceremony-2019. Recall that the main celebration in honor of the laureates will take place on October 4, in Moscow, and will be held at the site of the “Russian Energy Week” International Forum.
