RECOGNISING OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS IN ENERGY

The Global Energy Prize annually honors outstanding achievements in energy research and technology from around the world that are helping address the world’s various and pressing energy challenges.

Uranium deposits, up to 90,000 tonnes of reserves, discovered in Saudi Arabia

The British daily quoted a 2019 survey conducted by the Beijing Research Institute of Uranium Geology (BRIUG) and the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), working with the Saudi Geological Survey.

Experts, it said, had conducted their work over a year in the kingdom within the framework of a bilateral agreement on nuclear energy.

Geologists found three deposits in the centre and north-west of the country.

The Guardian said the potential stocks were sufficient to produce fuel for its own reactors as well as a surplus available for export. The levels, it said, could provide a boost for Saudi efforts to set up its own nuclear programme.
