The Global Energy Prize annually honors outstanding achievements in energy research and technology from around the world that are helping address the world’s various and pressing energy challenges.

Ilon Mask is nominated for the Global Energy Prize for the creation of Tesla

American businessman, the head of SpaceX and Tesla Motors Ilon Mask entered the short list of the Global Energy Prize, according to the website of the Global Energy Association.

"Entrepreneur, inventor and investor Ilon Mask - for exceptional organizational and scientific efforts aimed at creating a completely new, environmentally friendly electric vehicle and energy storage," the report said. The shortlist included nine other scientists: Darendra Yogi Gosvami (USA), Michael Gretzel (Switzerland), Igor Grekhov (Russia), Martin Green (Australia), Matteo Cortez (Spain), Yuri Oganesyan (Russia), Victor Orlov (Russia ), Henry Sneith (Great Britain), Hans Joachim Schellnhuber (Germany).

It is noted that 186 scientists from 31 countries took part in the struggle for the award in the XV, anniversary cycle of the prize.

The names of the laureats will be announced during a press conference to be held on April 6 in TASS. The event will be attended by Chairman of the International Committee for the Global Energy Prize, Nobel Peace Prize winner of 2007 Rodney Allam, Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency Adnan Amin and President of the Global Energy Association Igor Lobovsky.
