Academician of RAS: the most promising types of RES are solar and geothermal energy

Sergey Alekseenko, the 2018 Global Energy Prize laureate, Head of heat and mass transfer’s laboratory of Institute of Thermophysics of the RAS Siberian Branch, believes that Russia should develop energy storage methods.
The scientist mentioned that in the long run, renewable energy will dominate in power balance. "This is a very painful question for Russia. We are the richest in energy resources, but if we do not develop renewable sources, we can lag behind developed countries forever," he said, explaining that by 2035 Russia is expected to reach a share of renewable energy sources of 5% in the total energy balance, despite the fact that Germany plans to reach 80% by 2050.
