RECOGNISING OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS IN ENERGY

The Global Energy Prize annually honors outstanding achievements in energy research and technology from around the world that are helping address the world’s various and pressing energy challenges.

No time like the present. Why the development of renewable energy sources is important?

The advanced states, with the goal of sustainable development of national economies, as well as addressing the growing problems of climate change, strengthen the energy efficiency policy of production and increase the share of renewable energy sources in the energy balance. In order to keep up with global trends, Russia needs to introduce leading global approaches into the energy industry.

Speaking about energy development trends it can be noted, that in the nearest future the issue of developing environmentally friendly and efficient technologies for the production of fossil fuels, including a rough corner, will be addressed.
Two main types of renewable energy sources can be distinguished - solar energy and geothermal. According to forecasts, the reserves of deep heat will last for fifty thousand years. It would become possible to access almost inexhaustible energy resources with complete environmental safety by developing this direction.
In 2016, important documents were adopted: the Strategy for Scientific and Technological Development of the Russian Federation, the Digital Economy national program of the Russian Federation and the Paris Climate agreement. Also, approaches are changing: instead of federal target programs, complex scientific and technical programs will operate from the year 2020. There is already a specific project related to energy, aerohydrodynamics, mechanical engineering. Four leading institutes of the SB RAS and large companies and state corporations initiate the project – considers Sergey Alekseenko, the 2018 Global Energy Prize laureate, the RAS Academician.
